XYZ Work Board R2: assigning symbols (!, @, #) on a layer without Shift

Hi Work Louder team,

I'm using an XYZ Work Board R2 with Input on macOS, and I've hit a limitation in the key assignment UI that I'd like to raise.

The problem

When assigning a key on layer 3, the key picker only offers combined entries like "1 !" — a single item covering both the unshifted and shifted output of that physical key. There's no way to select just the "!" half. When I assign it, pressing the key on layer 3 outputs "1", and I only get "!" if I additionally hold Shift. Holding the layer key doesn't apply Shift; it only swaps which assignment fires.

Why this matters on this board specifically

The XYZ is a 47-key layout sold on the premise that layers give you the reach of a full-size keyboard in a smaller footprint. That premise depends on being able to put symbols on a layer. As it stands, the most natural use of a layer on a compact board — a dedicated symbol layer — isn't achievable through the standard picker. On a macropad this would be a minor annoyance; on a board meant to be someone's primary keyboard, it's central to the product working as advertised.

What I'd like

Shifted characters as their own selectable entries in the key list — "!", "@", "#", "$", "%", "^", "&", "*", "(", ")" and the rest — so that assigning one sends the base key plus Shift automatically, as a single keypress, with no modifier held on my end.

Two requests, then:

I'd suggest surfacing symbols directly in the picker. Nothing in the UI signals that the combined "1 !" entry will only ever produce "1", so the natural read is that the assignment is broken rather than working as designed.

Happy to send screenshots, a screen recording, or my order number if useful.

Thanks for your time — the board itself has been great, and this is the one thing standing between me and the layout I want.
