New Creator Micro v2 Update Available fails

I just received a new Creator micro running an older firmware (0.1.5) I believe. It prompts me to upgrade (0.3.0) as soon as I connect it. I am connecting the usb-c cable directly to my mac book air. The update attempts for a while and then I get a “We had an error! Retry!” message. I’ve tried turning it off and on and repeating this process numerous times, to no avail. Please advise.
