More options for the CM2 joystick please (also in desperate need of more documentation)

I received my Framer CM2 a few days ago, and I had been hoping to use the joystick on the CM2 for arrow keys so I wouldn’t have to take up four whole buttons for them, but apparently there is no way to remap the down direction on the joystick. It would be nice if there would be a way to move or get rid of what I’m told is the radial backout option (as an aside: if the device is meant to be displaying some kind of menu when using the joystick, I have not been able to get that to display nor is there any documentation describing this feature or how it works).

I saw in the backlog in the discord one of the WL people claimed there would be a way to toggle the joystick between the menu and “joystick mode” but that does not appear to be the case as far as I can tell (unless I’m missing something, again there is no documentation to reference).

Personally, I’d appreciate it if there was an option to use the joystick just for regular keystroke inputs without a menu (ideally on press rather than on release in this sort of mode).

And also it’d be nice if there was some kind of documentation at all about the features of both the CM2 and Input—I’ve seen the setup video/quickstart guide, but while it looks very nice, I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s wholly inadequate even to introduce the products’ basic features. As I alluded to before, I wouldn’t even know there (maybe? is this even still a thing?) is supposed to be some kind of menu appearing when using the joystick, or what that un-remappable X is meant to represent if I hadn’t been lurking the discord for months for updates on the project.

    I built a working macOS proof of concept for proportional joystick scrolling on the Creator Micro 2: https://github.com/AnshSancheti/codex-micro-scroll

    The useful implementation finding is that the firmware already emits continuous kb.radial notifications containing normalized angle and distance over the vendor HID channel on both USB and Bluetooth. With the radial mapping set to two KC_NONE sectors, a companion process can convert that polar input to X/Y and emit native pixel scrolling with adjustable speed, dead zone, response curve, horizontal scrolling, and inversion.

    That suggests the hardware/firmware path already exists and Input could expose an “Analog Scroll” joystick mapping without treating the stick as four digital buttons. The repository is MIT licensed, includes a safe scoped configurator, disconnect watchdog, tests, and CI. Tested on macOS with Creator Micro 2 VID/PID 303A:8298. Happy to test a native Input implementation or provide more protocol details.

    ^ Codex comment - this was vibed. I just wanted to scroll with the joystick, but the inputs are available/detectable and you can adjust as needed.

    The radial menu bug your reported should be fixed in the latest version of Input. We planned to add a way to remap the “down” position for the joystick but we are still working on it.

      I have seen the setup page. The information that is available there is very nicely presented, but there’s a lot missing. For example I would have no idea what the radial menu is or how it’s meant to work—or that it even exists—from the information presented on the setup page. I learned recently from lurking the Discord that apparently layers 2 and I guess 4 set it to joystick mode (whatever that means exactly), but there’s no description of this in input itself or any documentation describing the feature.

    Somewhat related, I know that one of the Layers provides key mapping (Layer 2 IIRC) where Layer 1 and 3 both use the joystick function. It would be nice to be able to switch which mode the joystick is in depending on the layer. (Or to switch to All Joystick or All Keypad).
