Feedback First hour of use.

Feature Request

Just getting to know the keyboard, but some things I'd really like to see after first impressions (I’m on Mac M1 btw).

  1. Auto-detect default:

    I’ve set up a layer to auto-detect on a particular bit of software, but when I exit that software, I'd like the device to reset the layer back to layer 1. I can't see anywhere where this is possible. I have to manually touch the layer select button to go back to layer one. It would be great to be able to select a layer that auto-selects when no auto-detect software has been detected.

  2. Edit radial button broken?

    The edit radio button menu is broken in the latest release. In the setup video, you show the ability to add multiple options when using the radio button, but I can't see that menu anywhere.

  3. Rotate button cycle through different actions:

    I think I can achieve the same feature with the radial button (if the edit button gets fixed) but I'd love to be able to cycle through a set of actions by rotating the dial. For instance, I'm using Claude code, and I'd like to cycle through a defined set of shortcuts as I rotate, rather than it essentially acting as a repeater for the same key

  4. Open Software:

    I'd love to be able to open specific software with a key press!

  5. Repeated options in modifiers:

    when I create an action and assign a key, looking into modifiers: Option, Command, Control, and Shift are repeated in the menu. They are also repeated under modifiers under basic

    Hi @Samuel Gregory thanks for your feedback!

    1. Auto-detect default layer: this is a good idea and something we want to eventually implement, we are considering having a “default” layer or a way to toggle to go “back” to the previous one.

    2. Edit radial button broken: are you using the latest version of Input? This should work as expetected.

    3. Rotate button cycle through different actions: I’m not sure what you mean here, how would you know what shortcut you have chosen from?

    4. Open Software: yes, this is planned!

    5. Repeated options in modifiers: yes, this is because the first modifier is the left one, the other is the right one. We’ll make this clearer in the ui.

    Some stuff to add, every time i startup Input app

    • It constantly asks if i want to use settings on device or in app - It’s hard to understand this and what the differences might be. On top of that, constantly being asked is frustrating

    • Very strange bug in Final Cut Pro. Using the dial, assigning up arrow to clockwise and down arrow to counter-clockwise rotating in both directions jumps through the timeline in the same direction. If I try and swap them out, then both rotational directions will go the other way in the timeline. Hard to explain but basically I can only get both directions to jump through the timeline in opposite direction no matter how I have it set up!

    • The Edit radial dial bug. I can only get it when I create a brand new layer. I've edited an existing layer, but don't get the edit menu, nor can I edit any of the layers that haven't been freshly set up by me. I’ve tried duplicating my layer to see if it will appear, but it doesn't.

    • Critical bug! My device has restarted 3 times since I've had it. The battery is well charged. It’s now just shut off (will be contacting your support directly)

    • Petty bug, but when naming things inside of input shortcuts (like Command-A to select all.), don't work

      +1 on the Input prompt for keyboard selection being both tedious and unclear
